This work explores the theme of buildings built on top of buildings, exploring the multiple ways that past constructions leaves their mark on the ground and on the landscape.

We are forced to then reflect on the reality that other current iconic buildings are, themselves, transitory. The piece seeks to disrupt the confidence that we feel in out city environments and question if they do represent our ability to adapt to our environment.

The four legs of the base hint at a more animal like origin and references the more natural ways that non-human animals live and relate to the earth and have less impact.

the work has been built up using a base structure of extruded ‘beams’ then added to with a mixture of paper clay, found metal objects and multiple layers of oxides and slips..

The addition of granular feldspar reacts in the gas kiln environment to give a rich and varied texture.
