Working on Surface texture and Design.
This piece illustrates a range of approaches to making and is made from a variety of paper clays that have been thrown on the wheel and then disrupted. The surface has been treated with several oxides.
Thinking about ways to effect surface
The final firing was done with a Saggar (this is a ceramic container that hold the piece and then other combustable material that colour / alter the surface of the piece)..
This piece was covered with some seaweed, banana skins and copper sulphate.
Elemental
Looking at the process of weathering and erosion on the surface of these ceramic forms.
The shapes have been emphasised with glaze and oxide, that has further reacted in the gas kiln environment, to give a rich texture which is reminiscent of stone at the coast.
