The Shard
Based on the iconic building designed by Renzo Piano, the piece focuses on the development of surfaces texture and again focuses on the fragility of the urban space.
The piece also seeks to disrupt the confidence that we feel in out city environments.
the work has been built up using a base structure of extruded ‘beams’ that are used to hold the flat surfaces.
The flat surfaces are built using bamboo sheet on which layers of paper clay slip and oxides are gradually added. During the firing process the bamboo is burnt out leaving the clay shell.
that are mixture of paper clay, found metal objects and multiple layers of oxides and slips. The addition of granular feldspar reacts in the gas kiln environment to give a rich and varied texture.
The Cheese Grater
Based on the iconic Richard Rogers building in the city of London this piece uses the basic slanted form as both its outline and its structure.
The construction is fast and intuitive - but creates a form and surface that is fragile and precarious.
The piece also seeks to disrupt the confidence that we feel in out city environments and think about the transitory nature of iconic urban forms
the work has been built up using a series of extrusions. It is balanced on a metal frame of ‘steels’ that are, themselves starting to fracture and warp under the pressure of the piece.
